The 2nd PUB IN Meeting: journals and scientific communication for open science has released the program for this year's edition. Thematic panels and discussions on emerging themes, flash talk sessions, technical workshops and presentations of experiences are some of the highlights for March 26 and 27.

This event, organized by FCCNdigital services of the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), and the University of Minho is heading to the north of the country for its second edition, at the Portuguese Catholic University in Porto.

For two days, the national publishing community will come together to develop technical skills, capitalize on knowledge and practices, and promote the sharing of good practices. 

Initiative brings together national and international speakers on scientific communication for Open Science 

The first day will feature the thematic panel "Diamond Open Access: lines of action for Portugal", with keynote speaker Pierre Mounier co-coordinator of OPERAS, co-coordinator of theEuropean Diamond Capacity Hub (EDCH) and co-director of the Directory of Open Access Books (DOAB). 

This session, moderated by Pedro Príncipe, from the University of Minho, also brings together João Mendes Moreira, director of the FCCN area, Delfim Leão, Vice-Rector for Culture and Open Science at the University of Coimbra, Susana Costa, from the University of Minho, and Tereza Barroso, director of the magazine Enfermagem Referência, from the Nursing School of Coimbra

The afternoon of March 26 begins with the Flash Talks 1 session, followed by "20 years of SciELO Portugal: history, impact and future", with various sessions and speakers:

  • 15h30-16h15 | "SciELO Portugal - Genesis and Construction": with the participation of Paula Meireles and Paula Carvalho, from the FCT, Cristiana Agapito, from the Directorate-General for Education and Science Statistics (DGEEC), Carlos Lopes, from ISPA - Instituto Universitário, and Rui Santos, from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities of NOVA University Lisbon.
  • 16h30-17h00 | "Impact and Relevance": moderated by João Azevedo, Vice-President of the SciELO Portugal Advisory Committee, brings together Solange Santos, from SciELO Brazil, Marta Gomes, editorial coordinator of the journal Cadernos do Arquivo Municipal, and João Mendes Moreira.
  • 17h00-17h30 | "The Future and the Challenges": moderated by Paula Carvalho and with speeches by Abel Packer, from SciELO Brazil, Francisco Santos, Vice-President of the FCT Board of Directors, and Eloy Rodrigues, Director of the Documentation and Library Services at the University of Minho.

The second and final day of the meeting, March 27, begins with a Flash Talks 2 session, followed by various workshops running in parallel:

  • SciELO Portugal
  • Innovations in Scientific Publishing
  • Good practices in scientific publishing 

The afternoon begins with a round table on "Artificial Intelligence - challenges for research results and scientific publication", with the presence of Peter Hanenberg, Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation at the Portuguese Catholic University, and Célia Manaia, from the Portuguese Catholic University

The 2nd PUB IN Meeting ends with the thematic panel "PRC - Publish, Review and Curate", led by Eloy Rodrigues, followed by the closing session. The full program can be found on the event's website.
