As part of the Lightning Talks challenge, promoted by GÉANT and, in Portugal, by FCCN, FCT's digital services, Ricardo Veiga presented his research work at TNC24, the world's largest networking conference, which took place between June 10 and 14.
An investigation that studies the seabed
The city of Rennes in France was chosen as the venue for the 2024 edition of TNC. On the third day of the initiative, in a brief 5-minute presentation, Ricardo Veiga presented his research work dedicated to creating a way of monitoring the ocean floor using automation and cloud computing technologies . cloud.
Through this innovative research, it is possible to implement a dynamic system that recognizes the specificities of the various underwater regions. "This is a significant step towards more sustainable ocean management," says the student in his application.
After taking part, the PhD student in Computer Engineering at the University of the Algarve answered a few questions about the experience, and also addressed young people who are also thinking of taking up this opportunity.
How was the experience at TNC?
The experience has been fantastic and very transformative, as it has taken me out of my comfort zone. The program team has helped me a lot, including improving my communication skills.
What is your assessment of the presentation and how can it contribute to the implementation of the idea?
My presentation was very challenging to give, but it was motivating to be able to get the message out there about what I've been doing over the last few years. It's very positive to contribute to a better world in which we can create a more global connection and collaboration, rather than local, closed research in which the results only serve a single location.
What message would you leave for other young people considering signing up for this initiative?
I think you should challenge yourselves. You should believe in yourselves and the research you're doing. You have a platform here with which you can project everything you've been doing and create new connections. You can meet people who will help you in the future and you can have new career opportunities here and perhaps find new places that will direct you on a new path.
