From June 6 to 9, in the run-up to the European Parliament elections, Science Europe, the association of major research funding and implementation organizations, is launching the "Vote for Science". Using the hashtag #Vote4Science, it is advocating political support for scientific research on the EU's legislative agenda for the next five years.
Campaign based on five commitments
As part of this initiative, Science Europe is calling on candidates for the 2024-2029 European Parliament and European Commission elections to accept five commitments that safeguard the future of European research and innovation.
(I) Investing in society, culture and competitiveness; (II) Freedom of scientific research; (III) Collaboration, openness and fairness; (IV) Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and (V) Scientific communication are the five pillars in question.
This campaign defends science for the benefit of society and scientific research as the cornerstone of its progress and the engine that drives innovation, prosperity and social, economic and environmental well-being.
What's more, we want to see an increasing appreciation of the role of science in economic growth and in improving the quality of life for all Europeans. All this to ensure that Europe remains at the forefront of innovation and progress worldwide.
