The 4th Advanced Computing Meeting, held on November 5 and 6 at the University of Beira Interior (UBI) in Covilhã, brought together 62 participants from various areas of science, technology and innovation. The event stood out for its collaborative atmosphere and its focus on the latest trends in advanced computing.

With a varied agenda, the meeting organized by FCCN, FCT's digital services, with the support of UBI, featured 15 face-to-face speakers and 5 remote interventions by international experts in 16 thematic sessions, as well as two workshops. Among the remote speakers were representatives from the organization of the meeting to present the Results of the Advanced Computing Survey. The session also featured contributions from representatives of the SCALAC Project, EuroHPC, the Dutch National HPC Competence Centre and UBI guest Professor Sorana Cimpan, who gave a detailed overview of data visualization.

Highlights of the event included the "Demo Deucalion" workshop , which gave participants a more practical view of the Portuguese supercomputer, funded by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR). The more technical sessions on porting code from x86 to ARM and the use of containers in artificial intelligence, as well as the session dedicated to the HPC virtual lab, were also received with great interest.

The meeting was an opportunity to foster dialog about the challenges and opportunities in the use of advanced computing resources, promoting partnerships and the exchange of experiences between technical support teams and users.

With the support of EuroCC Portugal, the sessions and workshops dedicated to various topics and with perspectives from numerous organizations promoted networking among the participants. The collaboration between higher education institutions, companies and research centers culminated in the meeting of the project's partners on the afternoon of the second day.

For Susana Caetano, manager of FCT's Advanced Computing service, developed by FCCN, "this event reinforces Portugal's commitment to the promotion and strategic use of advanced technologies, such as HPC and AI, enabling the scientific and technical community to face the challenges of the future. I would like to thank UBI and those responsible for the 3CA-UBI Competence Center for their welcome and support throughout the days of the event."
