The Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), through its digital services unit FCCN, and the University of Minho, have signed a National Cooperation Agreement with the Redalyc Scientific Information System, which aims to boost the quality and visibility of Diamond Open Access journals.
This agreement strengthens the promotion and support of national scientific research and is particularly important as the FCT is the first national government institution with which Redalyc has established a collaboration agreement.
The signing and implementation of this three-year protocol has the main objective of strengthening scientific journals in Portugal, helping to create a more robust ecosystem that facilitates free and open access to scientific information, with the promotion of interoperability. At the same time, training and the use of advanced tools will strengthen local capacities in editorial management and scientific publishing, raising the standards of national journals.
Some of the strategic actions implicit in this agreement are also aimed at carrying out a diagnostic assessment of the quality of the country's scientific journals, identifying areas of opportunity for strengthening publications and drawing up and publishing a report on scientific production in Portugal, with relevant indicators for the academic community.
The National Cooperation Agreement has a particular focus on the work of Pub In, a project developed by FCCN and the University of Minho that aims to simplify, integrate and bring coherence to the current set of platforms used to manage the editorial cycle (submission, review, publication) of national scientific journals.
