It was in 2010 that the Jornadas FCCN took place for the first time, with the first edition being held in Lisbon.
After 14 years and the success of the 2024 edition, people are already looking forward to next year. Find out more about this annual meeting of the community served by FCCN, the digital services of the Foundation for Science and Technology.
The first edition
The National Civil Engineering Laboratory was the first venue to host the meeting, bringing together the community that used FCCN 's services at the time between February 9 and 11, 2010. The program included in-depth sessions on technological trends of the time, such as Cloud Computing, GRID Computing and Data Storage.
In total, around 200 people attended the initiative. "The Jornadas FCCN are an annual knowledge-sharing event between entities linked to RCTS and FCCN," reads the activities report from FCCN.
15 editions, more than 5600 participants, 400 speakers and 230 sponsors
After the first edition, the event's strategic objectives were renewed and expanded over the following years, with the Jornadas FCCN continuing to have the fundamental objective of bringing together the community that uses FCT's digital services on a daily basis.
The scale of the initiative has grown considerably. Over the years, a total of more than 5600 participants, around 400 speakers and more than 230 sponsors have attended FCCN .
In 2024, 641 people took part in the event, which also featured more than 100 speakers and 35 sponsoring companies. This 15th edition took place between April 15 and 17, at the Madeira Congress Center and the Pestana Casino Park and, over these three days, there were more than 30 moments of knowledge sharing, from workshops, debate sessions and round tables.
From the north to the south of the country and the islands: the places that hosted the Days FCCN
The premise is just one: for three days, in a different region each year, the meeting opens up and promotes dialog on topics related to the areas of activity of FCCN, FCT's digital services: Connectivity, Computing, Collaboration, Knowledge and Security.
Always organized in partnership with an entity belonging to the FCCN Network, such as a University or Research Centre, the FCCN Days have already been held in various parts of the country.
Lisbon, Porto, Santarém, Aveiro, Évora, Algarve, Vila Real, Braga, Azores, Leiria, Viseu, Almada and Madeira are the regions that have already hosted the meeting. In order to ensure that the initiative could take place even during the COVID-19 pandemic, it was also held entirely online.

The 2025 edition
Next year, it will be Coimbra's turn to host the meeting, from May 6 to 8, with the close support of the University of Coimbra.
