A leading figure in Portuguese academia, Professor João Gabriel Silva takes to the stage of the Great Auditorium of the Convento de São Francisco, in Coimbra, on May 7, for one of the main moments of the FCCN 2025 Conference .
Former Rector of the University of Coimbra, the keynote speaker of this edition of the meeting has decades of experience in Computer Engineering. He is currently president of the Pedro Nunes Institute (IPN), a leading institution in promoting innovation and technology transfer between academia and business.
The first Portuguese computer in the spotlight
The spokesperson's session at the FCCN 2025 Conference starts at 10 a.m. and is entitled "From Ener to space", linked to one of the projects that João Gabriel Silva coordinated in the 1980s: the first Portuguese computer, the Ener 1000.
When asked about the presentation, the spokesman said that it would be "a visit to the project of the first Portuguese computer", highlighting the "influence that the computer had on the evolution of the IT world in Portugal".
He also shared his vision of the FCCN Days in an interview, stressing that "thisis a time to reflect on the future evolution of the software sector ". software and networks sector, which has one of its national exponents in Coimbra, and is facing an evolution full of challenges".
Finally, he left his expectations for the meeting: "I hope it will be a moment for the IT community to come together, helping to define the strategic lines for future developments, both in Higher Education and in Industry."
