Minister of Youth and Modernization met with the supercomputer's management and operations team

On February 7, the Minister for Youth and Modernization, Margarida Balseiro Lopes, visited the facilities of the Portuguese supercomputer Deucalion, in Guimarães. The visit, which included a meeting with the team that operates the infrastructure, was part of a series of contacts established with the University of Minho (UMinho), aimed at consolidating national strategies in the area of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

The Deucalion supercomputer, inaugurated in September 2023, is funded by the Recovery and Resilience Plan and managed by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) with the support of UMinho, and has the capacity to perform 10 million billion calculations per second. It is therefore a fundamental instrument for the production of excellent science and innovation in Portugal in various fields, contributing positively to the development of public policies linked to modernization, innovation and entrepreneurship.

Deucalion is also currently accessible to researchers who want to boost their projects by exploiting this innovative computational resource. Applications for A2 and A3 access to the 5th Advanced Computing Projects Calls , managed by FCT through its digital services unit FCCN, are open until March 11, 2025.
